    no pictures pleeeze -
or i'll get my! camera ...

She is the most beautiful Yukon pedigree - part German Shepherd, part Husky and maybe part who knows what - I have ever known. But her beauty goes far beyond her incredible eyes to the things she's taught me about life and things like that.

    I'm a very slow learner.

Missy is a family member. Rescued (too many) years ago, the first thing she taught me is that not only humans but all creatures are camera-shy. When she showed up, any time someone took out a camera, she immediately went down to the crawl-space - her sanctuary - not to hide, just to avoid getting her picture taken...

As for this portrait(?!)... people who know her are amazed I got any kind of a picture of her beautiful face at all. I've got lots of pictures of her other parts as she excels at avoiding the lens, but in this case she showed me that family members can take special liberties.

    At least occasionally...

She's also taught me other things with the incredible strength of her jaws - on my wrist when I was fooling around hiding the ball behind my back when I should have thrown it... and another time, aimed a millimetre from the throat of the leader of a small pack of attack dogs who thought her submissive behaviour was a sign of cowardice. Watching the woman's smug smile fade to abject fear as she chased her three fearfully enlightened dogs down the hill away from my Missy faster than any sled dogs is something I'll never forget. And then watching Missy more interested in sniffing plants and things than their departure was the end of that lesson - She defined, so eloquently, the term 'libertarian'. Although with cats it's a different story. She's never caught one of them so she hasn't learned it would probably be best to leave them alone...

    our very best friends
    are never far-from-the-heart ...
