In this photo one can see old and new skyscrapers splendidly coexisting in New York. The one in the middle is a marvellous example of early 20th century architectural form concerning skyscraper construction maybe of somewhat "mannered" and sophisticated elegance but with full respect to traditional aesthetic harmony that keeps them different but so much more admired from their consecutive and contemporary buddies of mediocre conformity and form. Especially the attic is a marvel.
It stays there maybe an elderly and senior citizen but starring defiantly to the others as if saying:
- "OK, you are higher, younger, much stronger possibly, but I am prettier than you!..."

: ) yes, it's those out-of-date and out-of-place looking veteran skyscrapers that add spice and steadfastness to a forever growing metropolis and make us fall in love with its past. as a "second city girl" – never been to new york, with the exception of its airport ; ) – i understand exactly what you describe here: one of chicago's landmark buildings is its little 19th century water tower looking fragile, yet stubbornly defensive among the spiffy new skyscrapers it's surrounded by. when i first spotted it, while taking in the magnificence and splendor of michigan avenue, i mistook it for a showy replica and almost moaned with disgust at this "anachronistic eyesore" – what a mistake! i read up on it and learned that it's a real veteran, one of the few survivors of the great fire… whenever i pass it now my heart goes out to it and, inwardly, i bow to it! ; ) plus, i find it strangely soothing and sobering, that everything that rises must come down again: earthly existence is so transient! a fact snow white's step mother never managed to digest. mirror, mirror on the wall… am i the tallest of the tall? pride comes before the fall, and even the tallest building will one day be exceeded in height and join the gallery of has-beens… in fact, i think the old veterans are just now preparing to welcome the burj khalifa among them… ; )) great new york series, alexander! i especially like the rendering of this one – for me it oozes sobriety, nostalgia and a certain historical "new-york newspaper" charm… greetings, sabine.

Wonderful words that encapsulate the beauty of that aesthetically pleasing older skyscraper. It has so much more character than thos newer ones :)))

you are quite right Alexander, often the ultramodern architecture give a sense of coldness and alienation, that here does not feel, your shooting is excellent and is not new, perfect in all aspects
