The 'in-the-air-standers'

Episyrphus balteatus,
sometimes called the wandering hoverfly or winter hoverfly, is a relatively small hoverfly (9-12 mm).
It is considered the most common native hoverfly in Central Europe.
In order to protect itself from predators, it imitates a defensive wasp with its yellow-black coloration.
The hoverfly has no sting, so it is completely harmless.

Die „In-der-Luft-Steher“
(Episyrphus balteatus) Hainschwebfliege
manchmal auch Wanderschwebfliege oder Winterschwebfliege genannt, ist eine relativ kleine Schwebfliege (9-12 mm).
Sie gilt als die häufigste einheimische Schwebfliege in Mitteleuropa.
Um sich vor Fressfeinden zu schützen, ahmt sie mit ihrer gelb-schwarzen Färbung eine wehrhafte Wespe nach.
Die Schwebfliege hat keinen Stachel, ist also völlig harmlos.
