Delos is another tiny island in Cyclades but of great mythological and historical importance. It was considered the birthplace of Apollo(Foebus), the God of music and light and thus the island was dedicated to his worship. During the 6th and 5th centuries BC Delos reached a very high level of civilization,commerce and wealth being the religious,political and administrative center of the Athenian leadership and dominion over the other Greek states. Later on, in the Roman times , it declined.
Nowadays the island is loaded with ancient relics but remains uninhabited and visited only by archaeologists,historians and, of course, tourists....
