Royal Rough-footed Buzzard

Weight: 1.200 - 2.000 g
Plumage: there is a light and a dark color morph
Food:
Pure carnivores; small mammals (squirrels, mice, rabbits,).
main food: rodents (depending on the region gopher, rats, prairie dogs)
but also birds, reptiles, insects (grasshoppers) are not spurned
Home: central and western North America and northern Central America
Popular habitats are open prairies, grasslands, deserts and semi-deserts as well as the edges of sparse forests.
Royal buzzards live as solitary birds or in pairs
It is the largest and heaviest buzzard in the world
The King Buzzard is now listed as Near Threatened on the IUCN Red List.

Hauptnahrung: Nagetiere (je nach Region Ziesel, Ratten, Präriehunde)
aber auch Vögel, Reptilien, Insekten (Grashüpfer) werden nicht verschmäht
Heimat: zentrales und westliches Nordamerika und im nördlichen Mittelamerika
Beliebte Lebensräume sind die offene Prärie, Grasland, Wüsten und Halbwüsten sowie die Ränder von lichten Wäldern
Königsbussarde leben als Einzelgänger oder Paarweise
Er ist der größte und schwerste Bussard der Welt
Der Königsbussard wird in der Roten Liste der IUCN mittlerweile als "Near Threatened" geführt.
