Last year we were out of time and just had a look down from the visitor center.
This year we came early, not only to do the trail, but also to escape the heat at noon, which unusually touched the hundreds one day.

Don´t be fooled by your eyes: the falls a some feet higher than the Niagara Falls!

Der trail zum Taughannock Wasserfall ist relativ kurz und leicht, weil er im Flusstal verläuft. Nachdem wir ihn letztes Jahr aus Zeitgründen nicht mehr machen konnten und uns nur ein Blick hinunter vom Visitor Center blieb, wollte ich dieses Jahr unbedingt dort hin.
Und wir waren sehr früh dort. Vor allem, um der für diese Gegend ungewöhnliche Hitzewelle einigermaßen zu entgehen. Mittags erreichte das Thermometer schon mal die 38 Grad!

Möge das Auge nicht täuschen: der Wasserfall ist einige Meter höher als die Niagara Falls!

Hi Matthias, it is funny you have this photo I lived in the farmland about 45 minutes east of this park. We used to stop all the time before seeing my cousins in Corning and Elmira. Cheers David

  We love upstate NY, especially the Finger Lakes area, been there several times. First time accommodated near Watkins Glen, next time Ovid and recently near Canandaigua. The State Parks around are wonderful.

  I lived next to Skaneateles lake. If you go anywhere near Rochester there is a park called Letchworth. It is a very cool place, big canyon.

Lush vegetation, refreshing water, nice !
I have the feeling that the falls look smaller due to the trees to the left, which seem to be standing directly in front of the cliff and act like a kind of scale. There must be a much wider space in between.
I hope you manage to go for a little swim ! Greg

Hätte ich nicht gedacht, wahrscheinlich wirken die Niagara Fälle höher weil sie etwas spektakulärer sind. Hier bekommt man den Eindruck, das man den Wasserfall in Ruhe geniessen kann, schöner Bildaufbau und Details.
