Nikon View- Need Assistance.

"On my computer, I have Nikon View, Nikon Picture Project, PhotoImpression 5, and Adobe Photoshop Elements 2.0."

I think, none of those are really able to work RAW - which simply have to be worked on -
You should at least also habe Nikon Editor - or, better, Nikon Capture (which is really great for doing RAW ).
I got the "test version" from Nikon - after I'd installed it and had done the FIRST pic - I've ordered at once the Full Version !!!

If it comes to different programmes, I agree with Ruud - whereas I work with three:

NIKON VIEW just to open a file to see all (many) pics on one side to select one for further processing

NIKON CAPTURE - I do the RAW-format-changes necessary (white-blance, sharpness, contrast like that) and then open this pic for preparation for the Internet in

PHOTOSHOP (Elemements at the moment)

How do you know?

"I know people can do all kinds of things on the computer to enhance their work, or even change it into something completely different. For the most part, I want my pictures to reveal what my eye saw. That's enough for me."

Hi Brad - what you said there really rang a bell for me. I only use digital (and photoshop) as i don't have the traditional photography skills. I do manipulate images purposefully in photoshop when i want to, but in some circumstances, I too still consider my best photos the ones i don't have to do anything to except perhaps crop, and i also want my pictures 'to reveal what my eye saw".
I imagine where we differ is that what a lot of people see as imperfections in traditional photography, i consider to be a valid part of my photos - blemishes on glass, flare, blurr, over exposure. It often expresses how i saw something, and what i liked about it. The 'impression' of what i saw.
So, often the same goals, different means of achieving it. Don't deny yourself the use of photoshop or whatever digital editing programme, - it's still up to you what you do with it, but do enjoy the fun and versatility it gives. A programme like PS often looks like overkill for one programme, but you can use as little or as much of it's offerings as you like.
