"Women and pottery" Bhaktapur Nepal

Bhaktapur is an ancient city, in the eastern corner of the Kathmandu valley about 13km from the capital city Kathmandu. It was the capital of Nepal during the great « Malla »kingdom, until the second half of the 15th century and still has the best preserved old city centre in Nepal. It is listed as a World Heritage site by UNESCO for its rich culture, traditional art and architecture, historical monuments, pottery,
weaving and other craft industries. Pottery Square is a public square awash with potter’s wheels and rows of grey and red/brown clay pots drying in the sun.

There is always someone tending to the pots, examining them and turning them to face the sun.

The harmonious colours of the red clothing with the touch of pink in the background and the pots caught my eye and inspired me to shoot « Women and pottery » of daily life in Bhaktapur.

Nearby buildings were damaged in the 2015 earthquake, but life and pottery in the square continues.
