San Giorgio Maggiore ist eine Insel in der Lagune von Venedig. Sie ist 490m lang, bis zu 320m breit und hat eine Fläche von 9,98ha. Zur Volkszählung 2001 wurden auf der Insel 11 ständige Bewohner nachgewiesen, alle männlich, alle im Kloster ;-)
Das Kloster und die Kirche auf der Insel tragen den gleiche Namen. Die Kirche ist zwischen 1566 und 1610 zu einer prächtigen Renaissance-Basilika umgewandelt worden.
San Giorgio Maggiore is an island in the lagoon of Venice. It is 490 metres long, up to 320 metres wide and has an area of 9.98 hectares. In the 2001 census, 11 permanent residents were recorded on the island, all male in the monastery ;-)
The monastery and the church on the island have the same name. The church was converted into a magnificent Renaissance basilica between 1566 and 1610.
