      For me - I Iiked the colours - the red and the purple,
      although these are very poignant places.

      And you are right. A high proportion of the headstones are unidentified - and merely state - "a soldier of the great war".
      But where the individual dead are identified - there are  - quite often - messages and sentiments on the headstones - provided by the "next of kin" - and these come in an enormous variety of sentiments - which are themselves - very moving.
