sun was rising over Cochella Valley, CA and moon was missing
so I added it!

Well ...I saw the thumbnail of this picture and thought it was a soccer ball highlighted with a flash and flying from the left to the right accross the picture. Opening the picture the impression stays somehow the same. And it's no wonder why.
Just some question:
Where does this moon, gets his light from? The sun, regularly lighting the moon, is in his back.
Do you know that the moon and the sun show about the same size seen from the earth?
Probably it's one of your first mounting experiences, but a good mounting cannot be seen, at least not on the first sight.
Anyway it was intresting looking aut 'your' moon :-)
