Melancholy Miss on an Autumn Afternoon

...despite her pearls, leopardskin, and carefully made up face, she’s feeling a bit wistful,
as her beau, Billy Joe Munster seems to have forgotten their rendezvous.

With a couple of rolls of my precious frozen stash of Kodachrome-25 left after my trip to
Switzerland and Germany in October, I was pleased to find motifs for this very special film
on a couple of splendid autumn afternoons in the Virginia Piedmont.

This Hallowe’en tableau in Stanardsville gave my Kodachrome a chance to show off its distinctive palette.

Thank you, Pamela, for the opportunity to shoot some of my Kodachrome on your Hallowe’en lawn.

From a Kodachrome-25 transparency.

it's all there: the melancholy, the introversion, the "please-let-me-disappear-from-the-world-and-not-be-remembered" look on her face! and the beautiful gentle autumn light brings it for all of us to see! never thought i'd be moved by a dummy, yet i am ; )) – a picture which illustrates that precious halloween mood connected to wistful sadness rather than rumbustious rudery! greetings, sabine. p.s.: personally, i would have chosen a different titel, because the "melancholy" in it literally "spoon-feeds" the viewer, giving the picture's magic away in advance!
