Flammen

Dieses Foto habe ich am 27.August 2009 in dem Ort Blahbatu auf Bali während einer hinduistischen Massen-Leichen-Verbrennung aufgenommen. In diesem verbrennenden Wesen, welches sich aus Tieren des Wassers, der Luft und der Erde zusammensetzt, befinden sich Opfergaben und die Ueberreste eines Leichnams. Im hinduitischen Glauben verlässt der Tote die Erde erst nach der Verbrennung und steigt auf zu Gott (so wurde es mir erklärt).


I took this picture in the village Blahbatu in Bali, during a hindu mass cremation, on the 27th of August 2009. The burning "body" contains the dead body of a person (might be soil or bones) and many offerings. Different parts of it symbolise animals from the sea (the tail is usually a fin), the wings symbolise the sky and the head represents the earth (mammal). In hindu beliefs, a dead person, doesn't leave the earth until it is cremated and rises to god. (This is the way it was explained to me).
