Die Schuhe am Donauufer ist ein 2005 errichtetes Mahnmal in Budapest. Auf einer Länge von 40 Metern wurden sechzig Paar Schuhe aus Metall auf dem Boden angebracht. Sie sollen dem Gedenken an die Massenerschießungen von ca. 3.500 ungarischen Juden am Donauufer während der faschistischen Pfeilkreuzler-Diktatur 1944/45 erinnern.
Meine Gedanken, was in diesen Menschen kurz vor ihrem Tod vorging, ließ mich schaudern und trieb mir Tränen in die Augen! Und ich konnte mir das nicht mal annähernd vorstellen ...

The Shoes on the banks of the Danube is a memorial erected in Budapest in 2005. Sixty pairs of metal shoes were placed on the ground over a length of 40 metres. They are intended to commemorate the mass shootings of around 3,500 Hungarian Jews on the banks of the Danube during the fascist Arrow Cross dictatorship in 1944/45.
My thoughts about what was going on inside these people shortly before their deaths made me shudder and brought tears to my eyes! And I couldn’t even begin to imagine it ...
