Art must be a constant stimulus to our everyday experience. This is the only way to tame atrocity in our life...

let's pretend it's the year 1716! let's see how the contemporaries did! were they blessed with better times? ah, keep on dreamin', folks! ; ) 1716 was brimming with massacres, barbarism, wars…* art? yes, some people turned to art: "one thousand and one nights" were translated into french by one antoine galland and subsequently became immensely popular throughout europe. alexander pope? also into translations at the time, his subject being homer's "iliad". pictures of flowers… very popular! margareta haverman paints them in a vase.** inventions? none to speak of apparently. but only a year later in 1717 edmond halley successfully tested the diving bell. to get away from it all? ; ) three years later: robinson crusoe on his island… ; )) people are people! good and evil… mainly shades of gray. art is… a drop in the bucket and ray of hope!
    greetings, sabine.

so intricate and ornate, a special view at our
forefathers' careful and beautiful artwork, when
even a simple house would shine with its
    decorations !!!!
    greetings, Adele

Very ornate decoration round the doorway a time when it was a pride to do so.

A thing of beauty that was made with great expertise, something to be proud of.....and yet I wonder how many people never see such art work as they go about their daily tasks.

    :))
