If you are seriously thinking of a Sony camera I would look to the new SLT A33 and the SLT A55. the NEX is a basic consumer camera. I am an avid Sony fan and have been for years and the New A55 will be on preorder this month for me. One ver cool part of the sony Alpha Line is the use of the minolta mount, which means that all minolta use lenses can be used with the camera. I have purchased a Tokina ATX 28mm-75mm F2.8 in like new condition off of Ebay for 34.05 shipped (us dollars)

Hi, I recently got one but I haven't been able to use it that much. I like the image quality, white balance and zoom versability. I had an A710 IS before, and this one seems like a big improvement, the feel is awesome when doing manual controls; I really like the scroll wheel.

Yes, I checked with Nikon Israel and fixing the camera is so expensive that I considered buying a new one. But my son thought he might try fixing it himself.

3rd party batterys are no problem i used one when the nikon d80 first came out. then used it in a mb d80 battery pack now im using it in my new nikon d90 no problem as stated before nikon make good cameras but it is highly unlikly they produce or desighn their own battery

Size of pictures

Nikon lists the pictures for your camera as:

Image size (pixels)
3,872 x 2,592 [L], 2,896 x 1,944 [M], 1,936 x 1,296 [S]

That is 3:2. 3:2 is the normal ratio for 4"x6" photos and is the standard ratio for 35mm photography for a long, long time.

4:3 is the format created by Olympus and Kodak when they developed their first DSLR's. It is a copy of the original TV aspect ratio. Suffice to say it is not the dominant global market format for photography. Therefore your old cameras must be part of the early pioneer ranks or be one of the few cameras still using 4:3 (Olympus perhaps).

It's not a camera's aspect ratio that counts (you can crop a photo to any aspect ratio you want), it's the quality of the image it takes and the useability of the camera that matters.
