We Are Soooo Cold

New Years Day 2022
a group of cold looking wood ducks on Lost Lagoon in Stanley Park, Vancouver ..
.
the wood duck is a medium-sized perching duck. It shares its genus with the Asian Mandarin duck (Aix galericulata).
The adult male has stunning multicolored iridescent plumage and red eyes, with a distinctive white flare down the neck. The female, less colorful, has a white eye-ring and a whitish throat. Both adults have crested heads.
A closer look at this couple, but not sharp enough for me to publish:

Beautifully coloured duck family. In France, they are called carolin ducks, named after Carolina, the US state where the first specimens were caught. They are also called wood ducks. Chris.

Interesting for me is the different name of this species in Canada and Germany. In Germany they are called Brautenten (bride ducks). I think, that the ducks in Canada are familiar with such temperatures. But indeed – they impress me being cold.

Herrlich, so schön, die vielen Enten mit unterschiedlichem Gefieder!!! Je mehr die Gewässer zufrieren, je härter wird das Leben für die vielen Wasservögel! Eine sehr feine Aufnahme!!! Auch die verlinkten Enten sehen wunderbar aus - ganz prächtig, ihr Gefieder!!! VG! a.
