The Violoncellist - Werner Matzke #1

Last year Werner Matzke, a friend of mine, and professional violoncellist played and published a CD with the cello suites 1,3, and 5 of J.S.Bach. Some time later he asked me for making some photos for a portfolio and his next CD. After a longer time of location searching we decided to realise that in a studio. So I rented a photo studio and because this was my first step in, I prepared my technical knowhow over several weeks. The shooting was not easy - especially for Werner because he had just returned from a concert tour through China. These are the results.

what i really like about this portrait is its great "understatement", or in other words: the cello rather than the musician is the undeniable "star" of the shot: it's right there in the center of attention, with the light catching on its wooden soundbox and literally making it glow – richer and warmer even than the "glow of concentration" on the musician's face ; )), who, with his accomplished and inspired play is breathing life into the instrument and, hopefully, making the music soar… greetings, sabine. p.s.: i also like the musician's unobtrusive black attire fitting in well with that line of interpretation, placing the instrument and its music on a pedestal!
