Lesser celandine is a low-growing plant with fleshy dark green, heart-shaped leaves and bright buttery yellow flowers.

This species prefers a damp ground and can be found in a range of habitats, mostly wet woodlands but also hedgerows, churchyards, road verges, meadows and river banks.
