Greece
Aegean Sea
Dodecanese
Astypalea island

Astypalea is the first 'smart" green island in Mediterranean Sea.

The Greek government and the Volkswagen Group, one of the world’s leading automakers, announced today a groundbreaking agreement for a pioneering project to transform Astypalea into the first smart, green island in the Mediterranean with energy autonomy.

The project involves gradually replacing conventional private and public vehicles on the island with electric ones; the introduction of an innovative transportation system; and the production of electricity from renewable energy sources to replace the current use of fossil fuels, leading to a sharp reduction in the island’s emissions of greenhouse gases.

Astypalea is a tiny island in the Dodecanesian complex of Aegean Sea and one of the most beautiful greek islands' Although is a frequent touristic target it never-fortunately!- reaches the extreme outbursts of other well advertised and famous islands, such as Myconos, Santorini, Paros etc, that turn these places very "ackward" tourist destinations in mid-summer...The island has splendid beaches and one of the most picturesque "Chores" among the Agean islands.
Its ancient Greek history extends back to the third milleniom BC.
