The dried Bagmati river

One of my photos I shot in 1986 when I trekked with my wife through the Kathmandu valley discovering amazing photo motives. This capture from the holy Bagmati river was shot in the late afternoon when the sun gives the perfect light.
The slide photo is scanned by a Nikon CoolScan 5000 ED from Kodachrome 100.

The importance of Bagmati also lies in the fact that Hindus are cremated on the banks of this holy river, and Kirants are buried in the hills by its side. According to the Nepalese Hindu tradition, the dead body must be dipped three times into the Bagmati river before cremation.

echt ergreifende Aufnahme.... ohwohl man nicht von "schön" sprechen kann ist diese Aufnahme absolut klasse

...ganz feine Alltagsszene, fast wie gemalt...und das gibts heute immer noch...aber mehr Menschen fordern ihren Platz im Kathmandu-Tal, die Anbauflächen für Lebensmittel werden immer geringer, der Müll wird immer mehr, und es wird immer mehr Plastikmüll der nicht verrottet...es gibt einige "grausame" Ecken in Kathmandu.......

danke Peter, leider hat sich auch Kathmandu und seine malerische Umgebung sehr zum Nachteil entwickelt, der Bagmati ist stellenweise nur noch eine ausgetrockene stinkende Pfütze und die Luftverschmutzung hat negative Höchstwerte. All die schlimmen Fehler, die man in Nepal in den letzten Jahrzehnten begangen hat, einschließlich der Abholzung und das "Vermüllen" vormals paradiesischer Landschaften ist sehr schwer wieder gut zu machen.
