Staircase serenity

Taken i Helsingborg in the summer of 2004. I like the patterns and form of the staircase, the serenity that the guy in the center seems to be enjoying, as well as some movement in the corner from the moving people.

Camera: Nikon D70, Nikkor 18-70

This is a very beautiful image. The color, tone, light and composition are all wonderful. It is like a film still. Everything serves the narrative.

The image would be better without the people on the left side. They are not needed to balance the composition and they work against the serenity. The steps would be flatter and more decontextualized without them. This would probably enhance the dreamy feel of the image.

I would change the cropping a little. I would bring the top edge down so that the next diagonal line starts in the upper left corner of the image. I would shave a millimeter off of the right side.

The image would benefit from spot toning. The little white specks in the upper right and some of the dark spots are very distracting.

Beautiful composed. But i like it in landscape orientation.

Thanks for all your nice comments.

As a reply to Tomy: Unfortunately i didn't take one without the walking couple so i don't have anything to compare with. But maybe i'll have a similar chance once more (or i'll just arrange one). If i do, i promise to publish it for comparison. Have to be on the vacation tho, i live more than 200 km from the place where i took the picture.

    Best regards, Björn

I would say the same thing you do in your description.

Really nice photo. You have the exact same equipment as me :-)

The geometries in this image are terrific and the elevated point of view makes for a pleasing composition.

    Very nice.
