Portal to the Wangdue Phodrang dzong and monastery
That time we were allowed to enter into the dzong but could not shoot photos inside. A great pity, now the pictures would be unique.
In June 24 2012 the dzong completely was gutted.
A major fire has destroyed the 374 years old dzong. The fire was, razing one of the oldest and historic fortresses to the ground. Since the dzong was under renovation before the fire, by luck most of the sacred relics, which were relocated, have been saved.
