Oregon | wide skies |
The volcanic peaks of Cascade Mountains were the eagerly awaited landmarks for the exhausted and tired settlers on their 2000 miles trail from St. Louis. After long weeks through the endless Western Plains of Kansas and Nebraska crossing the High Deserts of Eastern Oregon they would have only a few more days to arrive in Oregon City in fertile Willamette Valley.
Today it takes a few hours in an airconditioned car. However, the view still is awesome.
Die Vulkangipfel der Cascade Mountains waren die weithin sichtbaren und sehnsüchtig erwarteten Zeichen für die müden und entkräfteten Siedler auf ihrem rund 3200 km langen Weg von St. Louis, Missouri.
Nach langen Wochen durch die endlosen Prärien von Kansas und Nebraska durchkreuzten sie die Wüstenplateaus des östlichen Oregons und würden nun nur noch ein paar Tage brauchen, um ihr Ziel, das fruchtbare Tal des Willamette zu erreichen.
Heutzutage reichen ein paar Stunden im klimatisierten Auto, der Blick jedoch ist der gleiche und immer noch großartig.

Wundervoll hast Du diese unendlich scheinende Weite auf den Chip gebannt.Auf den ersten Blick dachte ich es sei der Mount Rainier im State of Washington, dem Staat, wo meine Enkelin geboren ist :-)
