One more photo from the Potala Palace
Before I close my session with photos from Tibet, I post another picture of the great Potala Palace in Lhasa. It was capture in 2004 during my first visit in Tibet. The influence of the Chinese is obviously.
The Tibetan Buddhist believers mostly are nomads, living in tents and holding a livestock of yaks, goats or sheep. A citizen who came to Lhasa the first time would be astonished very much to view to such a mighty building.
The building measures 400 metres east-west and 350 metres north-south, with sloping stone walls averaging 3 m thick, and 5 m thick at the base, and with copper poured into the foundations to help proof it against earthquakes. Thirteen stories of buildings – containing over 1,000 rooms, 10,000 shrines and about 200,000 statues – soar 117 m on top of Marpo Ri, the "Red Hill", rising more than 300 m in total above the valley floor.

danke Georg, wenn ich im Vergleich Dein Bild von 1991 betrachte, dann sehne ich mich nach der Vergangenheit und an die Atmosphäre, die man damals in Tibet verspürte, Gruß WolfgangGeorg Mahkorn 09/02/2013 13:16
Klasse Foto. Ich find den Potala ja fazinierend, aber der chinesische Einfluß tötet die Atmosphäre die einst davon ausging.§:-)

danke Matthias, die von Dir angesprochene Sterilität beobachtete ich überall in den tibetischen Städten, nicht nur in Lhasa. Im tibetischen Alltag gelten nur noch die chinesischen Regeln. Gruß WolfgangMatthias Krug-Bamberg 07/02/2013 13:27
Das ist ein wirklich beeindruckendes Foto. Was mir auffällt ist eine gewisse Sterilität, die es in Tibet eigentlich nicht gibt. Chinesischer Einfluss?HG Matthias
