"Ole Bill" at the Imperial War Museum London

"Ole Bill" was a London Bus that was transferred to the Western Front in the First World War and used to transport troops as there was a shortage of vehicles. They were repainted from Red to Khaki, had the windows boarded up and were modified to carry 25 troops. It was used in France and Belgium and then returned to the Uk in 1919 and reinstated as a bus in London. In 1920 it was inspected by King George V1 and became the first bus to be boarded by royalty. It carried on working until 1924 and preserved, being given to the Imperial War Museum in 1970.
