Icefjord in Ilulissat, Greenland

I visited Greenland in the summer of 2007. My first stayover was in Ilulissat, which means "Icefjord". I walked the "yellow route" on the rocks overlooking the fjord. This area is declared as world natural reserve and it is breath taking. Did you know that icebergs explode ongoingly? They used to do that also before global warming was a concern. Hiking in the midst of heather and herbs covered rocks and seein the ice shimmering in the afternoon sun feels like having just witnessed the creation of the world. I felt small yet important enough to be loved by God. An unforgettable day! I can only hope that we do everything to keep that ice from melting!
