Quokkas sind kleine Kängurus, die als die „fröhlichsten Tiere der Welt“ bezeichnet werden. Ihre Mundwinkel sind nach oben gezogen und, wenn sie ihr Maul öffnen, sieht es aus, als würden sie vergnügt lächeln oder grinsen. Quokkas sind sehr gesellig und leben in Gruppen von 25-150 Tieren.Quokkas leben in Australien, fast ausschließlich auf den Inseln Rottnest Island und Bald Island. Sie leben vor allem in dichten Wäldern und Sümpfen, aber auch in offenen Waldgebieten und Buschland. Die IUCN schätzt die Gesamtpopulation der Quokkas auf 8.000 bis 17.000 Tiere, davon 4.000 bis 8.000 auf Rottnest Island. Die Art wird als „gefährdet“ gelistet.

Quokkas are small kangaroos that are known as the "happiest animals in the world". The corners of her mouth are pulled up and when they open their mouths it looks like they are smiling or grinning cheerfully. Quokkas are very sociable and live in groups of 25-150 animals. Quokkas live in Australia, almost exclusively on the islands of Rottnest Island and Bald Island. They live mainly in dense forests and swamps, but also in open forest areas and scrubland. The IUCN estimates the total population of quokkas at 8,000 to 17,000 animals, including 4,000 to 8,000 on Rottnest Island. The species is listed as "endangered".
