Bestimmungsprobleme gibt es bei der artenreichen Familie der Bläulinge häufig. Will man die Falter einer Art zuordnen, ist es wichtig, die Unterseite der Flügel zu betrachten. Beim Faulbaum-Bläuling sind sie weiß bis hell gräulich mit schwarzen Flecken.
