Diese Möwenart ist mit einer Länge von 37-42 cm und einer Flügelspanne von 93-105cm etwas größer als eine Lachmöwe. Sie hat kurze, dunkelgraue bis schwarze Beine. Die Hinterzehe fehlt komplett.
