If someone had told me when I first picked up a camera that I would one day be within a few feet of one of the world's largest elephants, I wouldn't have thought this possible. And yet, in January 2023, after good planning and preparation with our guide, my partner and I ended up in the habitat just outside Amboselli NP where Craig and his companions (askaris) were located.
'Craig' pictured here is definitely unique and one of the last of its kind. A 'Super Tusker', an elephant with tusks each weighing more than 45 kg, and one of the most famous elephants alive today.
We spent several days in his presence, and believe me, it has been one of the most exciting experiences for both of us.

      Robert ,I was lucky to find Craig in and outside Amboselli. in the outskirts I was allowed to get out of the car, use a wide angle and stay just a few meters in front of this icoon and gentle giant for several occasions . Regi

    Hi Regi!
    I have missed you for some time! Now I know why!!! 
    A dream come true for you. This shot of Craig alone is so worth it, you should be very proud of it. And I assume you brought home at least another 1000 presentable photos on the chip! Absolutely spectacular is your shot from this perspective...your pulse must have been at full speed. Whereas I think this shot will also look fabulous in monochrome.
    I was actually planning to go to Amboseli last November on short notice, but cancelled due to the drought. How has the situation been now in January. Has a bit of rain come and bring back the vegetation? You met the Tusker outside of Amboseli in the direction of Tsavo?

      Hello Uli , for the moment I am back t'ill my next adventure (expedition). indeed a dream came true although I had the pleasure in photographing Tim just before covid , soon after he died of old age.it is definitely a trill when photographing from a low angle keeping an eye on. your viewfinder and the gentle giant walking tru my direction and yes many thousand of images are taking a day . I have this image in monochrome and it is a dream which will decorate the wall in the income hall of my home. I think you made a good decision not to visit during drought as when I was there late dec hundreds of corpses of wildebeest where spread over Amboselli. My guide told me that a large part of the existing residential wildebeest has died during that period and the smell of dead body was difficult to harden. during time that we were there we hardly saw wildebeest and the ones we saw where exhausted and not fit. I is hard to witness this nature with a the dead corpses and once more nature shows how hard life is in there. We saw Craig out and inside the park near Amboselli, the low angles are made outside the park in presence of a ranger surveilling from a near distance. We also stayed in TSAVO EAST and west and had amazing views from the bulls living in the park , they normally keep a considerable distance but this time and also the first time during the many years I visit this park bulls where very close in lush green areas , dominance for the best feeding place was not needed so they gathered which delivers great images and was a lust for the eye. I have much more to show but unfortunately not in near future as I am leaving on Thuesday to India for the snow leopards and tigers as well as a stay in kabini for the black leopard, i cross fingers , from there I leave for an expedition  to northern part of Vietnam were I finally got my permit to photograph the snob nosed Tonkin monkey. also there I hope during that stay to be successful and return with at least sights of the primates and in the best case some images.  it was a pleasure to read your comment and I hope you get good travels enjoying nature.       Your planned trips all sound brilliant. Especially for the snow leopards and black leopards - but of course also for the Tonkin monkeys - I wish you good luck, perfect light...but also good health!
