Circle Line S7 Train Approaches Paddington Station

Running parallel to the First Great Western Railway’s west-bound main line, an eastbound London
Underground Circle Line train of the new S-Stock carriages approaches Paddington Station.

The Circle Line being one of the Underground’s Sub-Surface (*) routes is the reason for the more hefty,
railroad-like profile of its equipment, as opposed to the lower profile trains used on the deep tube lines.(**)

The new S7 and S8 stock trains are being built by Bombardier in Derby, England and are unique in having
air conditioning (deep tube trains are not air conditioned, as the tunnel clearances do not allow for exhausting
hot air from the trains – not a problem in the sub-surface lines) and quite spacious interiors with full passenger
access from carriage to carriage.

The photo was taken from a westbound FGW diesel-powered
high speed train as we departed Paddington in the opposite direction.
