  I can imagine. I have just recently experimented luminosity masks (in GIMP) as explained by Pat David and I feel already a tremendous potential. As a matter of fact my recent black portrait of Katrina was modified using this tool.

  Thanks for that. I don't use GIMP but I can think I can "translate" at least the basics of Pat's approach to PS.

  The astonishing work of Pat David is a script that you activate with a click and creates a range of luminosity masks in a few seconds. I had originally followed his excellent step by step tutorial, but it is far more enjoyable to let thé script do the work.
