Ascent to Wat Phu Salao

In Laos, the railings of the stairs leading to the entrance to the temple are usually modeled after the Naga snake.
In Laotian mythology they symbolize the horizontal lines of Mount Meru, the abode of gods and protective deities, the axis of the universe and the dwelling place of celestial, terrestrial and subterranean beings.
