Adieu Mr Cantwell
Gerry Cantwell retired December 2009. Gerry is the sixth generation of Cantwell's to work at and look after Cape Spear Lighthouse's. Over the last number of years Gerry held the position of Supervisor Lightstation Operations for the Newfoundland and Labrador Region of the Canadian Coast Guard in St John's. We might be bidding adieu to Gerry but we will no doubt enjoy his company once again very soon! All the Best Gerry!

a great moving portrayal of a "bitter-sweet" moment! the "gentle" light seems to be caressing mr. cantwell's face, as though trying to make the emotional moment of coming down those well-known steps for the very last time easier for him! he's obivously leaving a part of his life behind him on those stairs, but entering a new promising stage, too! it's all in his look, which seems both wistful and optimistic at the same time! even the sturdy and square little lighthouse seems touched by the moment – in its own silent, stone-faced way ; ))… kind regards, sabine.
