Amy, when I use the macro or super macro mode in my C4000Z, I always adjust focus manually. Tha automatic focus don't work well for me...

An often made error is to zoom IN and then get closer. This way some camera's can't focus on short distance. Try with your camera to zoom OUT even if it sounds odd and then go closer with the camera to the object.

If you're not using a macro lense you won't be able to get too close and still focus. Try using a true macro lense, extension tubes or macro filters that screw onto the front of your lense.
