The Living Forest (304) : Blackthorn

Everywhere in the forest, Blackthorn shrubs can be seen in full bloom at the moment.
The wood of Blackthorn is extremely hard and is highly valued for making walking sticks.

Top right in my picture you can see a macro detail of the flowers.

At the end of summer, the shrub is adorned with lots of beautiful berries as can be seen in the shot below.

Dutch name : Sleedoorn
German name : Schlehdorn
Latin name : Prunus spinosa

Why the forest is so nice in the spring is all the flowering plants. Excellent image and thanks for the documentation.

the softness – absolultely adorable looking! never consciously perceived the blackthorn in full bloom… had i ever payed attention as a child, i might have appreciated the sloe shrub more. what i used to love about it was it's potential for some astringent late summer fun, aka berry degustation: "here, try this one!" "oooooooh!!! ah!! no! yikes!! better than a lemon juice!" ; )) greetings, sabine.
