A beautiful scenic byway is SD Highway 87. Completed in 1922 and deemed impossible to construct the spectacular road as a part of Custer State Park leads you through sharp turns, low tunnels and needlelike granite formations.
At this place the "Needles Eye"-tunnel pierces the granite rocks. Its like a bottleneck which causes cars to wait. Others enjoy the spectacular view :-)

Eine wunderschöne Nebenstrecke ist der "Needles Highway", der durch den Custer State Park führt,
vorbei an Granitspitzen, durch Tunnel und über enge Brücken.
An dieser Stelle durchdringt der "Needles Eye"-Tunnel die Granitfelsen. Er ist so schmal, dass die dicken Trucks gerade so hindurch passen. Es dauert halt, bis jeder in die eine oder andere Richtung durch ist. Hier ist Geduld gefragt.

In meinen Fotos vermeide ich - soweit es geht - Autos zu zeigen.In Deinem Foto stören sie mich nicht. Woran liegt das? Ich glaube, es ist die dargestellte Situation, die Anordnung, das Größenverhältnis und der Farbkontrast, welches alles in allem ein harmonisches Foto ergeben.
Hinzu kommt, dass ich immer wieder neidisch werde, welche wunderbaren Orte Du aufsuchen konntest.

It is getting so that so many of these spectacular places are getting so congested with people and their vehicles. Soon there will be nowhere left that is simply peaceful and quiet.Damned tourists :))))))
