Then -An old Zeiss Ikon

I had an old box camera that used one of those cartridges that had the film in it; I think the film was 126?? Then I found my Mom and Dad’s old camera, a Zeiss Ikon Ikonta 521/16 and they let me use it. I was still able to find some film, which was a surprise. I can’t believe I could figure this old camera out, a lot of things to set but it was fun.

Oh! Ken, I got exactly the same camera (Zeiss/Ikon Ikonta with film 120) from my father as a birthday present in my 1st grade in high scool.That was on December 1956. I kept this camera in my darkroom cupboard up to September 1997 when burglars broke in and swapped out everything.It was working nicely.Afterall almost nothing to adjust, aperture, shutter and distance, all manually!!

Good start to the monthly theme between old and new technologies. You still need the knowledge of the film era to stay away from auto modes. ;-)) Harold

for me the one really great advantage of going digital: shoot a picture, see the result, notice your mistake and try again – learning by doing, trial and error, trial and eventual success. took forever to wait for the outcome of my efforts, when still using the little kodak instamatic i got for my 7th birthday – cartridge films, yes (126), and 9 x 9 images. "C-R-A-C-K!" the sound it made, when the rectangular shutter release button was pushed. it tested the nerves of everything living and scared the tender-souled ones away – no second try possible! ; ) – which is why, as a child, i specialized in taking pictures of my steel nerved cart horse friend…; ))) greetings, sabine. p.s.: epilog: the life of my instamatic ended tragically: in the late 80s it was eaten off the picnic table by a sweet but mushy minded retriever… rip kodak, rip instamatic. ; ))

My first camera was a Kodak Brownie Box.......and I still have it.....in very good and working condition. I was a teenager at the time.
Later I got a Praktica.......wholly manual and the greatest fun to use......after a few other cameras, all analogue.....I now have digital......and so easy to use.
No more films to develope......no more smelly chemicals and with the new 16GB san discs......almost no limit to the pics I can take........

A super shot of this great old camera and the modern disc. I wonder what the old photographers with their pinhole cameras would make of this digital age :)))
