I would like to thank you for your compliments to my photos.
This year's cherry blossom blooming was earlier than planned, and good photos could not be photographed. I think that I can upload photos that I took a bit to FC next week as I started RAW development now.

I always had been scared by those creatures, however, having the time to get to learn a bit from them you realise that is just another God's creation, I asked a native why the way to lay like that, he told me that is the fastest way to unwind a hose, that serpent use to hunt by jumping over it's pray from the heights of the trees.

This is very easy, you download the Photoscape program, it is very small...you go to filter, choose illusion and then choose noise (Jitter) for the background. I use this program from time to time because it is very portable and versatile...regarding the photo of the bird, your can do it much better than me...I really appreciate your interest on my pictures Berthold, is always a pleasure to get your intelligent comments on my pictures, thanks for that.

When I decided to take this photo, in an outdoor car park, one of the reasons that caught my eye was this number which suggested the parking space marked with the number "2", but the man who made the delimitation of the parking places, instead to place the correct number 2, he put upside down the number 5, perhaps for his own convenience ...! :-)

About the sky, is just like you say, at first sight looks an easy shot, but when shooting..many problems arises, the earth's rotation, the proper ISO aperture, lots of things..I use to do stargazing, either photography or just using my binoculars on a tripod..the problem when you go into a deeper zone all looks the same so you must picture it to obtain a colorful sight..that's why astronomers use high resolution screens and pictures to ascertain how it looks like..got the chance when child to visit on of the many observatories at our North , I went to "Cerro Tololo" and "La silla" observatories the first from ESO and the second is American, we were visitors so we observed every step of the observation, the problem was that it was a sunny day, no direct obsevation but we was gifted with several huge color pictures, I'm getting back to the 70's..cause like this ,when at my country to develope a diapo was a drama in three acts..:)

Although I also own the razor sharp 24-70 (an amazing glass by any means), I found the 16-85 to be an absolutely fine performer, at least under bright light conditions (sunny day).

When walking at the streets of the big city I usually see various icons in front of me, taking their pace in this big urban happening and in my mind (familiar with this situation as well?).
Icons without having been connected to our personal (yet previous) experiences and underlying knowledges will remain dead and untapped, which, in my opinion, is some kind of a tiny, unexpected tragedy.
I saw something like a new version of a Robert Rauschenberg's painting on that Protest 2 wall. You guessed right about the abstraction.

"I C U" is an a few days ago taken at the yard of a highschool shot. I mean this picture as a with-no-words daystory of two close girlfriends who had no problem to stand in front of my camera for the needs of a photography lesson about focusing at the first or second level of a photo frame.
But they also are two young teenagers who are ready to conquer the life that lies just in front of them. And this might remind us an already well known life story: ours! Isn't it so?

sometimes it is more than obvious when two people's photographic prospect varies from shot to shot or theme to theme, and this is a mulitple sides to be seen matter (meaning, why this and not this, or, who's right and who's not, why this variation etc.). Through the years, I have understood well that what one might consider as a true highlight doesn't necessarily means that it might be considered by another too.
In my opinion, photography is a deeply curious field of creation, where everybody is permited to expand his personal testings, yet he has the obligation to accept any kind of critique once he decides to present them in public. Thus, if my claim is to be a photographer (eventhough still learner) don't I have to get under this kind of efficiency ratio? We don't have to think about it a lot, the answer is clearly YES.
Why am I telling you all these? First, to let you know that I both read carefully and feel pleased each time you or anyone else gives me his critical thought (it's like an unexpected gift), and, second, to make you feel free and comfortable to continue doing this every time you want.
It's not only because of politeness, it is a way to improve my work!

Alexandra is a very nice person indeed. She's a serious lady that teaches principles of portrait photography, together with her closest friend (a historian), Margarita.
This is a portrait shot of hers (out of two more) that I took a few days ago, when we were all working under a specific session on woman photography. To tell you the truth, the red fond was a personal choice of both of them when I gently asked them to pose for me.
The two portraits (Alexandra's and Margarita's) have been shot by using my brand new (then) lens, the Nikkor 17-55mm f/2.8, a piece that I didn't remain pleased with so much, thus I had it returned back to purchase the Nikkor 24-70mm f/2.8 next (an extremely sharp and fast glass, giving easily better results).

it is trully amazing how much correct your commenting words on "Indoors" photo are (rarely I have received so exact and targeting comment in the past). As I strongly believe, one has to understand the work of another one first and then proceed to comment (as you did with this photo of mine). Many times, under a simple (as many might think) click there's a lot of feeling and from the inner self coming creation.

Here you ignored what the photo-industries want to sell and for what millons of of photographers pay a lot of money for : sharpness! But that's the kick!!!!! Photografic "rules" are only guidelines and everybody should have the courage to ignore one....like you did!
For me it's not a photo in it's sense - it's an image reflecting a mood, and a new visual expierence!

This is another picture that was taken last October. It was taken with the D80 and the 18-200 mm Nikon lense. It was taken while vacationing on Crete. It was taken from Blue Palace in Elouanda, Crete.

Yes I could have gotten closer. I have other closer shots, but I wanted the city scape in the background.
Note also I used the gradient tool in PS to de-saturate the picture as you move towards the rear of the boat.
The picture with the full colour is really quite nice too.

I must tell you that your comment on my "Gesture" photo DID NOT bring me any annoyance at all. In fact, like I told you to my previous message, I accepted it with pleasure, since I appreciate a lot both your personal work and profile text (talked about it with some other friends of mine, whose opinion I do respect, as well).
If you check my replying message out closer enough (which I also copyied it under my photo in order other people to see this prolific dialogue between two photographers), you will be pleased to see that, in general, I'm mostly describing how did the photo procedure went on when shooting and I'm admitting that during my first efforts I kept failing... tragically!
Of course, not every human being of this complicated, contemporary world uses the same criteria when he/she is about to get under his/her rules or principles for evaluating or testing something. And when this approaches to cultural matters area (art, photography, literature etc.), everybody knows (and he understands) how much more subjective the personal judgement may get. We all are different! And the fact, by itself, makes our life more interesting.
To return back, I believe that this is exactly why someone might get fascinated after havig seen a certain image (e.g. the owner of "Gesture") or not (e.g. Berthold Klammer).
Any conclusion? Yes. "None of them is wrong at all". (Why should he/she, anyway?).

at first I'd like to thank you for commenting on my "Gesture" photo, I appreciate it a lot (better off since your experience in photography is vast), though I feel sorry that, like you said, you missed the dynamic era of it (that, in my poor opinion, it exists).
You see, my friend, what the viewer might observe here is the result of a hard photographic effort and not a "took-my-camera-then-pressed-the-button-and-voila!" picture (by the way, how many uploaded photos of this kind do you have in mind? Aren't they... countless?)
When I started shootings for "Gesture" (it took too many to get an accepted result) I turned first my camera towards a warm source of light that I wanted to catch it somehow differently.
The plan was to shoot continuously, moving the camera (in a circular sense) at the same time, in order to be combined both the lighting effect and the camera move (gesture). I must tell you that the first shots were... a complete failure (wrong white balance, unsteady camera holding, no abstraction at all). But almost an hour later (and many trials after) I was pleased to see the photo that you all may see here.
Should I also mention that the certain photo (Gesture) has been presented in several art exhibitions and a copy of it (1 out of 3) now belongs to its happy owner, a female psychologist from Greece.
Anyway, I thank you a lot for your time and words. You are kindly invited to comment on again to another photo of mine at any time.

Das Postulat habe ich verstanden. Doch du glaubt doch nicht wirklich, dass du in einem Forum des vollen demographischen Spectrums wertige Aussagen zu Kunst bekommst. Das ist ein Jahrmarkt mein Lieber. Den Begriff "subjektiv" solltest du dir mal vor die Brust nehmen. Danach kann man diskutieren. Allgemeinen sporadischen Gedanken kann ich nicht folgen. Fotografie ist subjektive Äusserung, die Überschneidungen mit weiteren Darstellungsformen sind ebenfalls subjektive Äusserungen. Panta rei, alles fliesst. Du kannst dem nicht mit einem Maßstab gerecht werden. Ich bleibe beim Jahrmarkt...

Natürlich hast Du auch hier Recht und ich habe den Mangel selbst schon bemerkt. Dazu muss ich sagen, dass ich auf dem Schiff war um mich zu erholen und Spaß zu haben, nicht um für die fc zu fotografieren; in meinem Überschwang sind da dann doch einige fotografische Feinheiten auf der Strecke geblieben.
Ich habe das Foto aus dieser "Kammer" (bei geöffneter Tür), der den Eingang zur Anytime Bar bildet, gemacht:

Farbenspiel:
Ich werde in Zukunft trotzdem etwas mehr auf solche Details achten.

I darkened the sky by adding a gradient and then a bit of dodging and buring. The sky on the day was very grey and bland.

Thank you very much for your comments!I'd like to say that I agree with your comments to Kylemore Abbey etc.,especially that pic in Kylemore abbey should be darker of some parts as you said,,but why I wasn't successful with that?,,because when I was taking that pic so outside was a normal day light with very strong sunshine so that makes pic in some parts,,too light or too dark,,of course I was trying to fix it,,but I know from my experience when I'm taking pics over a day light where is strong sunshine so I already know that pics can't be so clear for shadowing,dark parts what gives after very nice contrast but that could not happen there,so I agree that pic has not a good balance but I think that could be worse:)I think that pic would be nicer with sunset or sunrise and with autumn mood what makes trees more interesting with better colouring,,where you can expect better conditions and I'd say much more better result,,anyway thank you again for you good comments and I'll try to fix and improve that problem(by the way I simply know I shouldn't take pics when is sunshine so strong,,it was my fault)

My own photographic activities are not important.
My advanced age and my bad health do not leave me many margins for a good photographic activity.

I always had been scared by those creatures, however, having the time to get to learn a bit from them you realise that is just another God's creation, I asked a native why the way to lay like that, he told me that is the fastest way to unwind a hose, that serpent use to hunt by jumping over it's pray from the heights of the trees.

I really appreciate this old one, light and bright as I like and need. I also think we do not have to forget the qualities of the D4S sensor, especially in "working" on a a particular vertical and concentrated light as that I had inside the museum. Hello BertholdThis is very easy, you download the Photoscape program, it is very small...you go to filter, choose illusion and then choose noise (Jitter) for the background. I use this program from time to time because it is very portable and versatile...regarding the photo of the bird, your can do it much better than me...I really appreciate your interest on my pictures Berthold, is always a pleasure to get your intelligent comments on my pictures, thanks for that.

Thank you so much for your interesting comment!When I decided to take this photo, in an outdoor car park, one of the reasons that caught my eye was this number which suggested the parking space marked with the number "2", but the man who made the delimitation of the parking places, instead to place the correct number 2, he put upside down the number 5, perhaps for his own convenience ...! :-)

I rarely use my Canon Digital Rebel - so heavy with its big lens, especially on holidays :-)))The EXIF information on the right side below the image always shows all the photographic data - by the way.

Thanks many BertholdAbout the sky, is just like you say, at first sight looks an easy shot, but when shooting..many problems arises, the earth's rotation, the proper ISO aperture, lots of things..I use to do stargazing, either photography or just using my binoculars on a tripod..the problem when you go into a deeper zone all looks the same so you must picture it to obtain a colorful sight..that's why astronomers use high resolution screens and pictures to ascertain how it looks like..got the chance when child to visit on of the many observatories at our North , I went to "Cerro Tololo" and "La silla" observatories the first from ESO and the second is American, we were visitors so we observed every step of the observation, the problem was that it was a sunny day, no direct obsevation but we was gifted with several huge color pictures, I'm getting back to the 70's..cause like this ,when at my country to develope a diapo was a drama in three acts..:)

I shot the pictures you have commented on using two different telephoto zooms: Daydreamer's been shot with Tokina AT-X 840D 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6 (Nikon mount), when Hej!'s been shot with Nikon 80-200mm f/2.8 AF-D ED. In my opinion these lenses are able to give exceptional results when shooting outdoors (sunny day), although, under a closer look of the samples in full resolution, one can easily understand that the Nikon is much more sarper (and faster, of course). As I'm very into shooting regular and closer portraits when walking around, I could recommend them both for a photographer that will work under te same conditions.Enne See

Hallo,Du hast vorgeschlagen, unten ein Drittel wegzunehmen. Ich hatte das ausprobiert und es ergibt dann ein klassisches "Drittelregelbild". Ich fand, das sah ziemlich langweilig aus und mochte es so eigentlich lieber, bin mir aber bis heute selbst nicht ganz sicher.

I had some doubts about whether I had to upload the specific portrait or something else that I had in mind. I took this photo recently, when walking around, at the centre of the city (Thessaloniki), testing my new all-purpose lens, a Nikon 16-85mm.Although I also own the razor sharp 24-70 (an amazing glass by any means), I found the 16-85 to be an absolutely fine performer, at least under bright light conditions (sunny day).
Well, I tend to keep up testing it...

Hi, Berthold.When walking at the streets of the big city I usually see various icons in front of me, taking their pace in this big urban happening and in my mind (familiar with this situation as well?).
Icons without having been connected to our personal (yet previous) experiences and underlying knowledges will remain dead and untapped, which, in my opinion, is some kind of a tiny, unexpected tragedy.
I saw something like a new version of a Robert Rauschenberg's painting on that Protest 2 wall. You guessed right about the abstraction.

Hi, Berthold!"I C U" is an a few days ago taken at the yard of a highschool shot. I mean this picture as a with-no-words daystory of two close girlfriends who had no problem to stand in front of my camera for the needs of a photography lesson about focusing at the first or second level of a photo frame.
But they also are two young teenagers who are ready to conquer the life that lies just in front of them. And this might remind us an already well known life story: ours! Isn't it so?

Berthold,sometimes it is more than obvious when two people's photographic prospect varies from shot to shot or theme to theme, and this is a mulitple sides to be seen matter (meaning, why this and not this, or, who's right and who's not, why this variation etc.). Through the years, I have understood well that what one might consider as a true highlight doesn't necessarily means that it might be considered by another too.
In my opinion, photography is a deeply curious field of creation, where everybody is permited to expand his personal testings, yet he has the obligation to accept any kind of critique once he decides to present them in public. Thus, if my claim is to be a photographer (eventhough still learner) don't I have to get under this kind of efficiency ratio? We don't have to think about it a lot, the answer is clearly YES.
Why am I telling you all these? First, to let you know that I both read carefully and feel pleased each time you or anyone else gives me his critical thought (it's like an unexpected gift), and, second, to make you feel free and comfortable to continue doing this every time you want.
It's not only because of politeness, it is a way to improve my work!

Thank you, Berthold, for commenting on my work again.Alexandra is a very nice person indeed. She's a serious lady that teaches principles of portrait photography, together with her closest friend (a historian), Margarita.
This is a portrait shot of hers (out of two more) that I took a few days ago, when we were all working under a specific session on woman photography. To tell you the truth, the red fond was a personal choice of both of them when I gently asked them to pose for me.
The two portraits (Alexandra's and Margarita's) have been shot by using my brand new (then) lens, the Nikkor 17-55mm f/2.8, a piece that I didn't remain pleased with so much, thus I had it returned back to purchase the Nikkor 24-70mm f/2.8 next (an extremely sharp and fast glass, giving easily better results).

Thanks Berthold. I guess it was... I don't know. I had Media Access - shooting for myself and a soon to be "publication." I had the good fortune to be on the riser front and centre right beside the guy shooting for Flare and the house.
It's been a crazy year for me and photography. It is starting to get interesting to say the least. I have less and less time for FC these days. Anyway I have about 100 gigs of pic from this week. I may post about 10 more of my pics.

Here you ignored what the photo-industries want to sell and for what millons of of photographers pay a lot of money for : sharpness! But that's the kick!!!!! Photografic "rules" are only guidelines and everybody should have the courage to ignore one....like you did!
For me it's not a photo in it's sense - it's an image reflecting a mood, and a new visual expierence!

This is another picture that was taken last October. It was taken with the D80 and the 18-200 mm Nikon lense. It was taken while vacationing on Crete. It was taken from Blue Palace in Elouanda, Crete.

Thanks! This picture is a crop of a larger picture that was taken last year with a Lense I did not keep - the Tokina 11-16 mm. It was a test shot in low light (though there was some light from the flash on the dress. It is not my favourite picture, but I liked it.

Thanks for your comment on this picture.Yes I could have gotten closer. I have other closer shots, but I wanted the city scape in the background.
Note also I used the gradient tool in PS to de-saturate the picture as you move towards the rear of the boat.
The picture with the full colour is really quite nice too.

Dear Berthold,I must tell you that your comment on my "Gesture" photo DID NOT bring me any annoyance at all. In fact, like I told you to my previous message, I accepted it with pleasure, since I appreciate a lot both your personal work and profile text (talked about it with some other friends of mine, whose opinion I do respect, as well).
If you check my replying message out closer enough (which I also copyied it under my photo in order other people to see this prolific dialogue between two photographers), you will be pleased to see that, in general, I'm mostly describing how did the photo procedure went on when shooting and I'm admitting that during my first efforts I kept failing... tragically!
Of course, not every human being of this complicated, contemporary world uses the same criteria when he/she is about to get under his/her rules or principles for evaluating or testing something. And when this approaches to cultural matters area (art, photography, literature etc.), everybody knows (and he understands) how much more subjective the personal judgement may get. We all are different! And the fact, by itself, makes our life more interesting.
To return back, I believe that this is exactly why someone might get fascinated after havig seen a certain image (e.g. the owner of "Gesture") or not (e.g. Berthold Klammer).
Any conclusion? Yes. "None of them is wrong at all". (Why should he/she, anyway?).

You see, my friend, what the viewer might observe here is the result of a hard photographic effort and not a "took-my-camera-then-pressed-the-button-and-voila!" picture (by the way, how many uploaded photos of this kind do you have in mind? Aren't they... countless?)
When I started shootings for "Gesture" (it took too many to get an accepted result) I turned first my camera towards a warm source of light that I wanted to catch it somehow differently.
The plan was to shoot continuously, moving the camera (in a circular sense) at the same time, in order to be combined both the lighting effect and the camera move (gesture). I must tell you that the first shots were... a complete failure (wrong white balance, unsteady camera holding, no abstraction at all). But almost an hour later (and many trials after) I was pleased to see the photo that you all may see here.
Should I also mention that the certain photo (Gesture) has been presented in several art exhibitions and a copy of it (1 out of 3) now belongs to its happy owner, a female psychologist from Greece.

Doch du glaubt doch nicht wirklich, dass du in einem Forum des vollen demographischen Spectrums wertige Aussagen zu Kunst bekommst. Das ist ein Jahrmarkt mein Lieber. Den Begriff "subjektiv" solltest du dir mal vor die Brust nehmen. Danach kann man diskutieren. Allgemeinen sporadischen Gedanken kann ich nicht folgen. Fotografie ist subjektive Äusserung, die Überschneidungen mit weiteren Darstellungsformen sind ebenfalls subjektive Äusserungen. Panta rei, alles fliesst. Du kannst dem nicht mit einem Maßstab gerecht werden. Ich bleibe beim Jahrmarkt...

Natürlich hast Du auch hier Recht und ich habe den Mangel selbst schon bemerkt. Dazu muss ich sagen, dass ich auf dem Schiff war um mich zu erholen und Spaß zu haben, nicht um für die fc zu fotografieren; in meinem Überschwang sind da dann doch einige fotografische Feinheiten auf der Strecke geblieben.
Ich habe das Foto aus dieser "Kammer" (bei geöffneter Tür), der den Eingang zur Anytime Bar bildet, gemacht:

Ich werde in Zukunft trotzdem etwas mehr auf solche Details achten.

Hello Berthold,thank you for the comment on the priory shot.
I darkened the sky by adding a gradient and then a bit of dodging and buring. The sky on the day was very grey and bland.

Du hast Recht, so wie Du vorgeschlagen hast, wirkt es viel besser. Aber ich lass´ es trotzdem so drin, wie es ist; man muss auch mit Fehlern leben können.
Ich habe mir Deine Fotos angeschaut; die gefallen mir alle sehr gut. Die hätten durchweg ein besonderes Prädikat verdient. Respekt und Kompliment meinerseits !

Dear Berthold,,,Thank you very much for your comments!I'd like to say that I agree with your comments to Kylemore Abbey etc.,especially that pic in Kylemore abbey should be darker of some parts as you said,,but why I wasn't successful with that?,,because when I was taking that pic so outside was a normal day light with very strong sunshine so that makes pic in some parts,,too light or too dark,,of course I was trying to fix it,,but I know from my experience when I'm taking pics over a day light where is strong sunshine so I already know that pics can't be so clear for shadowing,dark parts what gives after very nice contrast but that could not happen there,so I agree that pic has not a good balance but I think that could be worse:)I think that pic would be nicer with sunset or sunrise and with autumn mood what makes trees more interesting with better colouring,,where you can expect better conditions and I'd say much more better result,,anyway thank you again for you good comments and I'll try to fix and improve that problem(by the way I simply know I shouldn't take pics when is sunshine so strong,,it was my fault)
