    @ D. Ynoche,
You make a wise and honest statement regarding how we view and judge photography and after seeing what has, and what has not made it into the gallery I am mystified as to the proper process of evaluation. Assuming that the standards for gallery acceptance should be set to a higher level, I judge on two criteria - emotional impact (which this shot has) and technical achievement (which this one is missing).

I'm a member of FC because I love photography and want to improve my skills. Having in depth discussions about gallery proposals is most educational because we all see and interpret photographs differently.

I'm a contra voter and can appreciate the difficulty of shooting in harsh backlight. However, if you look at a histogram of this shot, the whites are right off the scale. It's an exposure issue that even photoshop can't fix. The photographer had several choices, depending on how much time she had with this subject. Move the model into better light. Crop in tighter on the shot. Bracket her exposures. Balance the highlights correctly and use fill flash. It's an interesting face with a great look.

Sharpening is a bit too strong. Great idea and prtrait but still a con for me.

It has the potential, but not the technique. Too overexposed. Contra

Welch ein vom Leben gezeichnetes Gesicht! Und fein eingefangen, der Bildschnitt ist Klasse. Auch das von hinten einfallende Licht paßt gut dazu, auch wenn es doch recht hell ist.
