Lefkada, an island in Ionian Sea, also rich in history followed through the centuries more or less the fate of the other islands in the same complex. According to Mythology, in this island famous Sapfo (although of Lesbon origin) committed suicide...Then the island passed successively in the hands of Byzantines, Venetians, Ottomans, French, Russians and English. Eventually, at 1864, the entire complex of Ionian islands was given by the English as a wedding present to king George 1st at his imauguration as king of Greece. The island is now joined with greek mainland with a peninsula in north and in south a beautiful lagoon is formed.

The lagoon does look so beautiful and peaceful to... and what a history... along with all of the mythology, a really fascinating country.:))

wonderful deep of field with this view ! i am used to see "blue" lagoon" because i lived under tropics long time in my life!!!amitiés
