Napoli and Vesouvio, a great and irreconcilable friendship and coexistence since the depths of antiquity.It's rage had disastrous concequences in the past and yet considerably contributes to the present grandeur, awe and splendid beauty of Napoli. Vesouvio stands overlooking defiantly as historical emblem the city reminiscent of a hidden power but, in the same time, mean, vicious and crafty like another Pulcinello conciliating the opposites of life and death....

it's one of those places that in mythical times would have inspired rituals of tribute paying and sacrificial ordeals: a maiden dish once a month laid out at the foot of the monstrous mountain to sate its appetite, ensure its benevolence, and keep it from taking its anger out at the city… ; ) fascinating, how it, the vast volcano, is being accompanied by an entourage of white clouds that seem to signal that, for now, everything is in perfect order: no need to worry, white smoke is good! it makes popes and tells us that heat is under control… in other words: the mountain is well-disposed to the idea of peaceful co-existence with the town down below! but people of naples, don't you ever mess with it! ; ) greetings, sabine.Christos Banos 02/11/2015 21:10

An excellent view across the bay of Naple nd up to Vesuviuswith what I assume is its plume of smoke lying menacingly across the top. The feeling of depth in ths shot is accenttuated well by the darker tones in the foreground.:))
