it's the strangest thing: when i spotted this image in the preview, my first thought was "the walls of jericho!" ; ) i think it's because in my imagination i was always visually combining the intimidating blare of the trumpets with the majestic architecture of the venerable walls they tore down – hence in my mind i see sky-high trumpet-like walls, thinking of the biblical jericho. and apparently "my jericho" is located in upper egypt… ; ) the way those pillars of karnak seem to be sternly looking down on the black figure passing humbly beneath them – absolutely impressive!!! the vertical format and the light/dark contrasts even enhance this sense of a glorious clash between belittling greatness and humble humanity! a definite eye-catcher in your gallery, alexander! greetings, sabine.

Good comparison of scale like sue says about how it was built but the workmanship in forming them too with the simple tools used

That lone man walking between these towering pillars really gives excellent perspective to the scene. Those illars are immense and looking at the size of some of the stones used it does beg the question HOW.....how did they even start to build such places.
    A superb picture.

    :))
