The "Quattro Canti" in Palermo
The heart and also the physical center of old Palermo is Piazza Vigliena (1608-1620), which has the shape of an octagon, also known as "I Quattro Canti" (The Four Cantons)" or "Teatro del Sole" (Theatre of the Sun) because at any time of day at least one of the cantons is illuminated from sunlight.

Ecco ilo tuo consueto b/n materico che ci immerge nel migliore dei modi nella Palermo antica e popolaresca. Spiccano i due personaggi ed il loro reciproco ignorarsi, come ignorano virtualmente le figure retoriche monumentali che sembrano cercare la loro attenzione. La statua in alto guarda sconsolata il ragazzo che se ne va noncurante in moto e la maschera marmorea, più sotto, sembra urlare qualcosa al passante che smarrito, pare non non capire chi lo stia apostrofando. Ho scoperto che una delle statue dominanti l'Ottagono raffigura Santa Cristina, che è stata una delle quattro antiche patrone di Palermo, in seguito soppiantate da Santa Rosalia (senza dubbio raccomandata di ferro).Le Cristine quindi ... con mia sorpresa, non si trovano solo a nord come pensavo.
