The Fungi World (382) : Porcelain fungus

The porcelain fungus is a white, slimy wood-rot fungus and is strongly tied to rotting beech, on which it grows in clusters.

It appears in autumn on dead trunks and on fallen branches, and occasionally it also grows on dead branches high up in living trees, but always on beech.

It got its name by the layer of transparent mucus that covers the caps and so imitates porcelain.

Dutch name : Porseleinzwam
German name : Buchen Schleimrübling (auch Beringte Schleimrübling genannt)
Latin name : Oudemansiella mucida

Porcelain mushroom is a very suitable name for this species. I do not like the German name. Very impressive photographed!
Mark, I wish you a wonderful Christmas and 2019 a lot of health to continue to shoot such fantastic pictures!

By seeing your picture without looking at the name, I thought of porcelain. (I am a porcelain painter) Fabulously photographed, the fungi have really the shine of porcelain.
    Bonne nuit - Erika
