The Fungi World (27) : Bolete mould
Something very special this time : a fungus growing on a fungus !
It’s the Bolete mould : a white wooly mould which is mostly growing on bolete species. It’s one of a small number of fungi that parasitize other fungi.
The mould spreads across the whole fungus, sometimes engulfing or mummifying it entirely and distorting it into something nearly unrecognizable. At the end of its life, the mould turns from white to golden yellow.
If you should have appetite for this : it's not edible.
Dutch name : Goudschimmel (ook soms Boletenrot of Goudgele zwameter genaamd)
German name : Goldschimmel
Latin name : Hypomyces chrysospermus
