Once a Corner Grocery Store (8)
now still a grocery store (in Chinatown)
before supermarkets Vancouver had many, many little corner grocery stores in every neighbourhood (the entrance door being on the corner) .... some still remain, but many have been converted to other stores, cafes, art galleries and living quarters - I love them as they take away from the impersonality of the big stores...

In einer meiner AM erwähnte ich, daß die Eckgeschäfte größtenteils von Matratzenläden belegt sind so auch bis heute der in unserer Stadt. Dieser Umstand scheint sich zu ändern. Auch unser Eck-Matratzengeschäft schließt Anfang Mai.Es war sehr interessant, die Eckgeschäfte in Deine Einzugsbereich kennen zu lernen. Sie scheinen ebenso ihre besten Zeiten hinter sich zu haben und im Konkurrenzkampf mit den großen Märkten das Nachsehen zu haben.

Ich erinnere mich bei diesem Anblick an die kleinen Lebensmittelgeschäfte meiner Kindheit und zwar vor allem an ihren speziellen Geruch. Damals gab es noch Sardellen und Stockfisch in Fässern und offene Gläser mit Salzgurken.LG Roswitha
