London
Docklands

The Docklands. Name of Old London's riverfront and docks, spreading around east and south east London respectively. The Docks were formerly the main part of London's largest port in world buzzing with ships, sailor,s night life and merchandize activities from all over the world but following the closure of the docksthe area became derelict and poverty ridden. By the 80s redevelopment plans began transforming and regenerating the entire area and making it very interesting not only for commercial and residential but also architectural and turistic point of view. As it always happens it has also generated a conflict with full of pros and cons referring to the acceptence of it's current esthetic character. From any point of view, it,s worth paying a visit to this particular historic London side and besides lingering back to Dickens, Swifts,Sterns and of so many others pages, also enjoy couple of pints in London's oldest pubs. Famous "The Prospect of Whitby" is one of those since the end of 1700 as it's very hospitable owners claim....

In the photo a panoramic view of old port and Wapping area at the far end.
