I´ve seen such use of stones at some places in Europe as well: Sweden and Croatia

  People like to build.
  Or at least, they used to, in times past.
  It is interesting - that in this picture, I was trying to depict a journey, and a scene revealing itself. I wasn't even thinking about the wall.
  Yet the two comments that I received - were observations on the wall.
  In England - I suppose we take the walls for granted.

  In many hilly areas of England - where stone is available - then through many centuries - the farmers have used this cheap (or even free) material to enclose all of the small fields and the lanes.
  The stones are not cemented in - but are just laid down.

  Well - I wanted to represent how the landscape of the valley is revealed - as you go along this lane.
  The lane is typical of the roads in this region - being too narrow for cars - but good for walkers.
